Chestnut - Science week - Magic Milk
Magic Milk!
What we learnt:
Milk is mostly water, but it also contains, vitamins, minerals, proteins and tiny droplets of fat. Washing up liquid is designed to break down fat. When we added the two together we saw a chemical reaction. Liquids such as water and milk have surface tension. That means that the molecules cling together tightly, creating a kind of ‘skin’ on the surface. When we added washing up liquid it broke the surface tension and disrupted the food colouring to create a burst of colour. Just look at how amazed we were!
