Magnolia - Year 1
Welcome to Magnolia Class
In Magnolia class, we promote a learning environment which provides a secure, safe and happy space for the children to take risks in their learning. Children are encouraged to take ownership over their learning, and to follow their own interests. We also provide the children with the tools to develop a growth mindset that makes them enthusiastic, motivated and resilient learners.
Home and school links:
We are keen to work as closely as possible with you all the way through your child’s time at primary school. If you would like to speak to a member of staff about your child, please contact us via the class email or arrange a telephone conversation through the school office.
Much of our day to day communication with you is takes place on Tapestry. We will share wow moments with you and we absolutely love it when you share wow moments from home. We often record practical activities on Tapestry and will share these with you as well. There is also a weekly newsletter with reminders and information about what we are learning
Home learning is shared on Tapestry and each term we send out a curriculum newsletter and knowledge organiser for the new topic.
Year 1 and Year 2 Common exception words (used for spelling practice weekly over the year)

Here is a link to the expectations for the end of Year 1 in a typical non- COVID year. Please remember that whilst we are almost half way through the year at the moment the disruption caused by coronavirus and lockdown will have a bearing on what children have learnt so far. This term in Maths, we are learning about measuring length and will be covering place value and numbers to 50. We are continuing Phase 5 phonics and consolidating prior phonics learning.
