Dear Parents,

Welcome back to school after the Easter break. We hope you had an enjoyable and restful break and are ready for what promises to be a busy term! Please find details of our topic, events and other information below. All this information can also be found on the Hever School website.

TERMLY FOCUS

  • We have just a few short weeks until our hardworking year 6s take their Key Stage 2 assessments (w/c 8th May).
  • We will be working extra hard on spelling, grammar, punctuation and times tables to ensure every child has in place these essential skills. In Oak class we recognise the importance of mastering these basics before children move on to the next stage of education and therefore will be devoting a good deal of time to these skills.

Term 5s topic in Oak Class will be 'Rainforests'

A study based on world geography, learning during ‘Rainforeststopic will include:

  • Using geographical skills to locate places and topographical features on maps
  • Understanding ecosystems and habitats, including the structure and wildlife of rainforests and how some species have adapted for survival
  • Examining the impact that humans have on rainforests, including the reasons behind and consequences of logging and deforestation
  • Using technology to investigate, research and gather information on Rainforest topics such as ‘developments in sustainable energy’
  • Literacy linked to our topic including both fiction and non-fiction texts
  • After SATS week we will begin rehearsing our annual school production

Please see below for general information. This is followed by curriculum foci and the homework outline for this term.

There is a weekly drop-in session after school on a Tuesday and we are happy to see parents by appointment at other times. If there is anything you would like to discuss about your childs learning, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Yours sincerely,

Mr N Stone and Mrs C Beverley
